GENERAL UXBRIDGE COED SLO-PITCH/SPN GAME RULES

1. OFFICAL BAT LIST
a) Only the following types of bats may be used:
-
Bats that have been provided by Uxbridge CSL.
-
Bats approved by SPN and have a proper label on them (See the proper Labels on the SPN website and check the Approved Bat List)

b) In the event a player is caught using a non approved bat, the following penalty will be imposed;
• Batted Ball: Batter will be declared out, ball declared dead and the bat shall be removed from the game; all advancement of runners will be reversed. • Ball not in play: Bat will be removed from game.
2. FIELD OF PLAY
a) Home team is to have bases pegged down in a proper fashion, 65 feet from each another. The measurements shall start from corner 3 of the home plate (See Diagram below) It works out that the centre of the 2nd Base is 91ʹ-11ʺ from corner 3 of the home plate.
b) In the interest of pitchers' safety, a PITCHING line will be placed 50 feet from the back point of home plate. The line must be at least 5 feet in length. Pitchers must start their pitch with at least one foot behind or touching this line.
c) The SCORING LINE is drawn in the dirt from the corner of the original home plate (corner closest to the third base) and perpendicular to the third baseline and shall extend a minimum of 6 feet or more from the baseline into foul territory.
d) The COMMITMENT LINE is drawn 20 feet from corner “1” of the original home plate (corner closest to third base) and perpendicular to the third baseline and shall extend a minimum of 6 feet or more from the baseline into foul territory. Since we do not have chalk this line will be marked by a flat disc style pylon set as close to the dugout fence as possible.
e) A SAFETY BASE with Orange and White base covers, is to be used at 1st base.

f) Uxbridge CSL is to supply 2 – 12 inch balls each game, 1 of which should be a new ball. All balls must be the approved SPN WORTH YS40RSS3 GRAY DOT, .40 COR / 375lbs.

g) Overthrows that stay within bounds are open to as many bases as the runner can take.

h) Out of Bounds – If a ball is thrown out of bounds (e.g. into the dugout, under the screen, over the screen, outside the fence) the base runner will be awarded an additional base(s). The number of bases is at the discretion of the captains and dependant on where the runner is at the time of the throw, and where the ball was thrown from (infield or outfield).

i) SPN Infield fly rule shall apply. INFIELD FLY: an infield fly is a fair ball not including a line drive which can be caught by an infielder with ordinary effort when first and second or first, second and third bases are occupied before two(2) are out. Any fielder can catch an infield fly

SPN NOTE: If a fairly batted ball is to be declared an infield fly the CAPTAIN shall call: “INFIELD FLY, IF FAIR, BATTER IS OUT” for the benefit of the runners. Failure to make the call does not preclude the batted ball from being an infield fly. The ball is alive and if the runners advance they do so at their own risk and are in jeopardy if the ball is caught. The ruling is the same as any other caught or dropped fly ball. A foul ball is not an infield fly and if the ball falls untouched to the ground in the fair or foul territory before first or third base and subsequently rolls into foul territory, it is just a foul ball.

****AMENDMENT: Due to the nature of the league the infield fly rule will not be enforced. Safety remains our number 1 concern and therefore the runner can run off the baseline to stay out of the fielder's way. If the runner comes in contact with the fielder who is trying to field the ball the runner will be out. Should infield fly become a safety concern again, this amendment will be removed and the rule will be enforced. This will be at the discretion of the Executive Board. ****

j) If a fly ball is caught in the outfield and there are runners on base, the runners are able to base "tag up" and run to the next base.

(Uxbridge CSL: The pitcher is not a defensive player and shall not play the ball unless they need to protect themselves)

6. BASERUNNING
a) Runs are scored when the player crosses the home plate scoring line, if the runner makes contact with home plate the runner is automatically out. The catcher is to stand on the home plate when making the out at home, the runner must cross the home plate line before the catcher catches the ball and touches the plate.
b) If the catcher/or other player has the ball somewhere along the 3rd baseline as the runner is going home, there may be a case where the catcher tags the runner before they reach home plate. This will only be allowed and counted as an “out” if the runner is tagged BEFORE they are within 20ʹ of home plate. If the runner has passed this point, the only way to get them out is if the player with the ball touches home plate before the runner crosses the home plate line. This 20ʹ line is to be marked by a flat pylon that will sit as close to the fence as possible.
c) Runner is out if he/she touches the white part of 1st base on a run-through. In turn, the runner will be deemed safe if the 1st baseman is touching the orange side of the bag. This is to prevent collisions on the base path.
d) If the runner touches the white side of the 1st base bag they must make the turn toward the 2nd base. Failure to do so will result in the batter being called out. e) NO STEALING or LEADOFFS: Runner must maintain contact with the base until the batter makes contact with the ball. Any player failing to do so will result in an out, called at the discretion of the captains!
f) NO SLIDING. In the event sliding happens, the runner is automatically out.
7. COURTESY RUNNERS
